| The proportion of adults in the UK who have never been married or entered into a civil partnership is increasing. In 1991, just over a quarter of adults were single. That is now nearly forty per cent. As of 2021, the number of people in a marriage or civil partnership is 47% – down from 58 per cent 30 years ago The percentage of adults who are divorced remains the same at 9 per cent. According to the Office for National Statistics, adults in same sex marriages and civil partnerships are more likely to be younger, have no religion and have higher level qualifications than adults in opposite-sex marriages. |
