There were 232,000 marriages and civil partnerships in England and Wales in 2023. That’s an 8% decrease on the previous year.
Civil partnerships have increased too according to the Office of National Statistics. Most of these are opposite sex partnerships.
The South East of England had the highest number of marriages while London had the most civil partnerships.
We are getting married later too: its now 35 for a man and 33 for a woman.
But we still like getting hitched on Saturdays.
