One in five recent divorces were delayed due to the pressures on the cost of living.

These financial reasons included concern about their income and the cost of the divorce itself.

The research also found that:

  • Annual incomes fell by an average £9,700 in the year following a divorce
  • One in three divorces occur over the age of 50 and result in an average loss to pension savings of £63 a month
  • 40% of people who get divorced think the financial settlement is unfair.
  • Only 7% of divorcing couples seek professional advice
