- Just under half of adults are married or in a civil partnership

- In the last ten years, the number of people in civil partnerships has almost doubled
- 60 per cent of same-sex marriages were between men
- Despite the decline in marriage, living as a couple is still the most common way of living, with more young people cohabiting rather than entering into a formal relationship.
