Mediators are prohibited from giving clients legal advice. If you require a legally binding agreement (a Consent Order) to finalise your agreement, it is a good idea to have a solicitor. If you are unclear about what your position should or could be in mediation, it is also a good idea to instruct a solicitor.
A solicitor can give you ‘best interests’ advice that a mediator cannot. You should ask the solicitor what rates they charge and how they charge, what their rates include and if Resolution has trained them (this will indicate that they work well alongside the mediation process).
